The situation in NJ-10 is still developing, but NJ Democrats need to be ready.
For those not aware, Congressman Payne suffered a cardiac event April 6, and news is somewhat sparse.
His office says that he is expected to make a full recovery, but it appears he may not have regained consciousness and has been on a ventilator since the event.
This happens after the primary filing has closed, but the General Election Ballot filing deadline is still 6 weeks away. The district is primarily in Essex County, but it also extends into Hudson County and was drawn to be a VRA compliant district.
It just requires 100 signatures of voters in the district to get on the GE ballot as an independent.
This one hits close to home, because this is my district, and if push came to shove, I would get the requisite signatures, and run as an independent candidate in November.
