I am a musician and for many years have traveled to places like the UK to record and jam with other great musicians. Mostly of the Blues and Jazz influence.
In the past few years I was getting the feeling that I was no longer as welcome as I once was just because I was American and probably supported Bush. I tried my best to dispell that as not true but musicians really despise talking politics when they can create instead. So it was difficult. I did tell them all I was a democrat and that I was liberal and progressive...however, I have come to realize that means many things in world politics and not always the same thing in the UK as it does in the US.
Stick with me here:
So I get this email this morning from one of the best guitar guys I know from Essex, England
Hi John,
Congratulations and thanks to all you Democrats that voted in your
recent local elections and won enough seats to take power in congress.
We are very proud of you all in the UK, and hope you finish the job off in two years time
by removing George Bush and his corrupt team.
We are trying hard to get rid of Tony Blaire after foolishly putting him back in
power in 2004 for a third disastrous term. Hopefully by Spring next year he will be gone.
Maybe then the USA and Europe can work together to get a peaceful solution to the
Middle East crisis, and Iraq.
Your Friend
John
Wow....that really did make me proud as hell to be an American again!
